Investing in Lakefield's Future: $3.9 Million in Federal Funding
The Government of Canada is investing more than $3.9 million in critical
water and wastewater infrastructure upgrades for Lakefield through the
Build Communities Strong Fund

On September 14th, I had the opportunity to join Mayor Sherry Senis to celebrate this important investment in Lakefield's future. Investments like this one play a fundamental role in maintaining the quality of life that residents depend on every day.
The funding will support upgrades to two sections of sewer infrastructure and the installation of a twin force main beneath the Otonabee River in the Lakefield South Development Area. These improvements will help ensure that Lakefield's water and wastewater systems can continue to meet the needs of residents today while preparing for future growth.
This project will provide several important benefits for our community, including more reliable wastewater services, increased system capacity, reduced risk of sewer overflows, and enhanced fire protection.
By investing in this critical infrastructure now, we are helping to build a stronger, safer, and more resilient community for years to come.
I understand how important it is that communities like ours have the infrastructure needed to support families, businesses, and future development. Investments in water and wastewater systems may happen behind the scenes, but they are essential to ensuring that our communities remain healthy, sustainable, and prepared for growth.
The improvements will also support planned residential development in the Lakefield South Development Area, helping ensure that infrastructure keeps pace with housing needs while continuing to serve existing residents effectively. Building new homes requires investing in the infrastructure that makes growth possible, and this project represents an important step in that process.
I would like to thank Mayor Senis, municipal staff, and everyone who worked to advance this project. Achievements like this are possible when all levels of government work together to address local priorities and invest in the long-term success of our communities.
