The Canada Water Agency is beginning work on our first National Water Security Strategy, and you can have your say from now until October 25, 2026.

Water is at the heart of our communities, especially in the riding of Peterborough, home to a section of the Trent-Severn Waterway and our many lakes, rivers, wetlands, and watersheds. From protecting drinking water sources and supporting agriculture, to helping communities adapt to floods, droughts, and changing climate conditions, fresh water is one of Canada's most important resources.

That is why the Government of Canada has launched work to develop Canada's first ever National Water Security Strategy, a long-term roadmap to help strengthen water security for future generations. This initiative, led by the Canada Water Agency, is being developed in collaboration with provincial, territorial, and Indigenous partners, recognizing that water stewardship is a shared responsibility.

Canada is facing growing challenges related to the quality, quantity, and availability of fresh water. Developing a national strategy will help identify shared priorities, strengthen collaboration, and guide future action to ensure Canadians continue to have access to clean, reliable water while protecting our ecosystems and supporting economic growth.

We also want to hear directly from Canadians! I would like to invite you to participate in a public engagement process that will help shape the strategy's vision, priorities and actions. This process is open to everyone, and no technical expertise is required. Whether you are a homeowner, farmer, business owner, environmental advocate, Indigenous knowledge holder, student, or simply someone who cares about the future of Canada's water resources, your perspective matters.

The public engagement period will be open until October 25, 2026. For information on how to participate, please visit the page linked below.

Together, we can build a stronger, more resilient, and more water-secure Canada. I encourage everyone to learn more about the initiative and share their views.
